The Volkswagen Atlas is a German mid-size SUV that has been around since 2017. It is sold as the Volkswagen Teramont in China, Russia, Mexico, the Middle East, and Rwanda. Being a recent entrant in the market, the car comes with LED headlights and LED daytime running lights.

The LED technology in the Volkswagen Atlas, including its LED headlights and daytime running lights, offers improved visibility and energy efficiency compared to traditional halogen bulbs. These LED lights are known for their long lifespan, reducing the frequency of replacements.

The Atlas’s lighting system is not just functional but also adds to the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal, with the LED headlights providing a distinctive, sharp look that aligns with modern design trends.

Additionally, the LED daytime running lights enhance safety by increasing the vehicle’s visibility to other road users during daylight hours.

Bulb type used

For its headlights, the VW Atlas uses LEDs both for its high beam and low beam. It utilizes H8 or H8 LED bulbs for its fog lights.

Upgrading from factory bulbs to aftermarket LED/HID

One of the main reasons why car owners upgrade their headlights to LED and HID technology is due to the need for better lighting. This is achieved at a lower cost, both financially and with regards to energy conservation. LED and HID headlights also improve safety for motorists.

Advantages of upgrading from halogen to LED/HID

  1. LED/HID bulbs light faster and illuminate farther than halogen lights.
  2. They are energy-efficient compared to halogen lights.
  3. They are also durable and tough, meaning they will last longer than halogen bulbs.
  4. They have little to no UV emission.
  5. They are flexible in design, allowing car owners to upgrade the look of their cars.

How to choose the correct bulb size

  • Online search

You can check out our VW Atlas light bulb replacement chart to find out what size of bulb fits your vehicle. This is especially if you’d like to replace your old halogen headlights with LED or HID headlights.

  • Vehicle manual

Your vehicle manual comes with unique codes that are assigned to bulbs installed in your vehicle. For example, your headlight bulbs could be given the code H7. Such a code helps you to determine the correct bulb size for your bulbs.

  • Contact your car dealer

Car manufacturers and dealers normally keep a record of all part/size numbers depending on the vehicle they sell or produce. This helps them to retrieve the correct parts when doing repairs. Giving either a call will help you find out what bulb size your vehicle requires. Have your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) just in case they ask for it.

  • Refer to your old bulbs

Your old bulbs should have a part/size number indicated on them. Before you discard them, check to see what size is written on them. This will help you determine the correct bulb size for your vehicle.

Installing new bulbs

  1. Open the hood of your VW Atlas.
  2. Remove the protective plastic cap that covers the back of the bulb in the headlight assembly.
  3. Make a quarter turn on the bulb socket to remove the bulb.
  4. Replace the old bulb with the new one.
  5. Reinstall the bulb socket.
  6. Put the cover back on and test your bulbs to see if it works.

Additional equipment

  1. Gloves to prevent touching bulbs with bare fingers.
