The Dodge Avenger, a popular model known for its sleek design and robust performance, requires specific headlight bulbs to ensure optimal visibility and safety on the road. The headlight bulb size for most Dodge Avenger models is typically a standard H11 bulb for the low beam headlights.

These H11 bulbs are widely recognized for their efficiency in providing a bright, clear light that significantly improves night-time driving.

Additionally, the high beam headlight bulb is commonly an H9 bulb, known for its increased intensity and longer range of light projection, which is essential for driving in less illuminated areas or during adverse weather conditions.

Dodge Avenger sedan (2007–2014) Bulbs Chart

First appearing in 1994 as a two-door coupe, the Dodge Avenger was a joint venture between Mitsubishi Motors and the Chrysler Corporation under the Diamond Star Motors (DSM) marque. It was produced from 1994 to the year 2000 in this configuration. The model was re-introduced to consumers as a four-door sedan in 2008, with 2014 marking the end of its production run.

The best way to get instructions on how to change the Dodge Avenger’s headlampbulbs is to read the owner’s manual. Usually, all the information you will ever need about maintaining your vehicle can be found in it. However, for whatever reason, some car owners lose their owner’s manual somewhere along the way, hence the need for this do-it-yourself guide.

This guide will help you in replacing the headlight bulbs in Dodge Avenger sedans from model year 2011 up to 2014, but basically, the process for replacing headlamp bulbs in the first-generation Dodge Avenger will be similar, if not the same.

You are going to need two headlamp bulbs for this application, as the Dodge Avenger uses separate bulbs for high beam and low beam respectively. Replacement halogen bulb part numbers are #9006 for low beam and #9005 for high beam. The good thing about replacing the headlamp bulbs in the Dodge Avenger is that you won’t need any tools at all, just your fingers and a delicate but firm grip.

To change the low beam headlamp bulbs in the Avenger, you first have to locate them. They can be found on the outer side of the headlamp housing. To access the headlamp bulb, reach in behind the headlamp housing. Using a tight, firm grip, hold the base of the old low beam bulb and carefully rotate it anti-clockwise about a quarter (1/4) turn. Once you feel the lampbulb base move freely and easily without any major resistance, pull it slowly out of the headlamp assembly. Absolutely do not pull itout by the wires! The wires might rip loose and you will end up also having to replace those.

Using your fingers or a standard flat screwdriver, pry up the retaining clip of the electrical connector and then pull the plug from the bottom of the old bulb

Always remember that you shold never touch the glass part of the new halogen bulb, or let it come into contact with anything! Doing this may leave dirt or oily marks on the bulb, and this will affect the brightness and intensity of the bulb. If this happens, moisten a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wipe the bulb’s glass surface clean.

Putting the new bulb in is just the same process in reverse. Slowly push in the new low beam light bulb (#9006) onto the power plug or connector, then insert the new low beam bulb back into the headlamp assembly. Once this is done, rotate it clockwise until you feel it lock into place.

To change the Dodge Avenger’s high beam bulbs, you have to locate them first. They are found in the inner side of the headlamp housing. Repeat the same process you did in replacing the low beam headlight bulb, except take note that there are two plastic retaining clips on the electrical connecter instead of just one. Also, make sure that you are using the correct bulb (high beam bulb part number #9005) for this process.

Lately, most cars come straight from the factory with xenon high intensity discharge projector lamps or LED (light emitting diode) headlights. These kinds of headlights produce an intense light beam that lights up the road pretty brightly, making night driving much safer. Unfortunately, the Dodge Avenger does not include this feature.

Luckily for Dodge Avenger owners, aftermarket HID or LED headlamps are available for their vehicle. They can be found at any major parts store that stocks Dodge-specific products, or online sellers such as e-bay or amazon.com. If you’re ordering online, just make sure that you’re ordering for the correct model year. Giving your vehicle identification number to the seller would probably be a good idea; this might make it easier for them to match the part to your vehicle.

Once you have your aftermarket HID or LED headlamps, you can replace them by following these steps:

    Step 1

Pop the hood and leave it up. Move to the fenders.

    Step 2

Look inside the front fenders and locate the three screws. Unscrew them and do the same step on the other side of the car.

    Step 3

Look for the plastic rivet (on both sides of the car) and ten screws. Take the plastic rivet off and unscrew the ten screws.

    Step 4

Look for the seven screws holding the grille to the car. Take these off. Take note that your grille will still be attached to the bumper. The grill does not have to be removed.

    Step 5

On one side, grab the bumper and pull outward carefully. While doing this, make your way to the other fender. Be carefully in pulling the bumper off from the body as your foglights (if you have them) are still attached to the bumper. If they are, just twist the bulb and pull itout. The bumper might make a cracking sound while you’re pulling it off. This is normal. Don’t worry about breaking the bumper as it is pretty flexible.

    Step 6

Locate the three screws attaching the headlamp housing to the body and unscrew these, together with a little screw on the side of the headlight assembly. Repeat this step on the other side.

    Step 7

Replace the stock headlamp with the new HID or LED projector lamp.

    Step 8

Follow the previous steps in reverse, and make sure you put everything in its proper place.

    And there you have it!

Replacing headlamp bulbs or even the headlamp housing itself isn’t really that complicated. You don’t need to pay a mechanic a lot of money to do it! And of course, doing things yourself gives you a sense of satisfaction you can’t get anywhere else!
